that time of the year

My mom came in today to visit.  We had a great day, and went to lunch, did some shopping, and saw Sister Act.  Most importantly though, we took pictures for our anual Christmas Card.  Is it sad that I'm 20 years old, and still take a Christmas Card photo?? haha. I think not!

And we had my good friend, Allie take the photos.  She's amazing, check her out

walk to fight

On the same role of film from the Slut Walk, I have pictures from walking the Brooklyn Bridge, while participating in a NEDA (national eating disorder association) walk.  It was surprisingly my first time ever walking it, but it was beautiful and I can't wait to do it again.

feminits unite

I totally forgot about some film I had developed weeks ago.  These two pictures are from the Slut Walk that took place in NYC.  I like to consider myself a feminist, so this was right up my alley.  It was pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if I would say it was a success.  I dressed like I normally do (not "slutty"), but some of the outfits I think took it too far.  I also unfortunately woke up too late to make any clever signs.   If you want to know more about slut walks, and how they begin, check out their wiki page.

Unfortunately this photo is slightly blurry, but otherwise it would have been great.
Me and my suite-mate, Shanelle after the walk.  If you can see, I have the word slut written on my cheek, that was my idea of dressing up.

22/10/11

Had a great weekend, my mom visited Saturday morning.  We went to a gallery, and then Donna Karan's store Urban Zen.  My mom had won a gift certificate, so she bought so really nice oils, a necklace, and we each bought a really cool bracelet made by Jason Ross, he is really cool and you should check him out.  Here is a picture of the bracelet we bought, please excuse my man wrists.

In the afternoon I met up with my best childhood friend Vicky,  and her husband.  We walked around China town and little Italy, and slowly made our way to the Staten Island Ferry.  It's so nice to catch up with people you haven't seen in a while.

faint yoga.

I recently decided to try hot yoga with one of my roommates.  I was definitely very nervous before hand, and I think the instructor noticed.  When I was younger, I had the tendency to faint, because of low blood pressure.  Whether it be during chorus or at an amusement park, fainting was/is never convenient.  Within the first 15 minutes I got the same sensation of fainting.  I had to sit for almost half of the class, but I hope it was somewhat effective.  I might just stick to regular vinyasa yoga from now on.
These were my before and after faces:

british.

As far as decorating in my apartment, it is coming along nicely.  My roommates and I all decided that we will each get a wall in the living room that we can decorate to our choosing.  Considering my obsession with British culture, it was a no-brainer that was theme was to be British.  As you may be able to see, so far I have a "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster, a vintage map of London, a Union Jack poster, a poster of the London Tube, and some photographs from my travels in England and Scotland this summer.

it's a lifestyle.

For the academic year I have decided to go vegan.  Although partly for dietary reasons, I am doing it mainly for environmental reasons.  Although when eating out it can be slightly difficult, it is quite easy at home, and rather good.  I came home for the long weekend, and made some delicious food with my mom. I purchased some local organic mushrooms at a fair in Montauk, and bought tomatoes, onions, brussel sprouts and other food at the farm stand near my house.

internet problems.

It seems that I have been having internet problems. I haven't been making any posts lately because for some reason blogger doesn't work in my apartment at school. But hey, it's alright alright alright.

dorm life

It's been over a week since I have moved in, and I am finally staying my first weekend here at Lincoln Center. My apartment is pretty nice, and I'm looking forward to decorating it all year with different finds.

I'm living with 5 other girls, and we are each in a double.  We have a nice living room, kitchen area, and two bathrooms. Definitely more to come.  My roommates and I are all planning on taking a wall in the living room and giving it our own touch.  I am planning on a British theme.

electric feel.

So out in East Quogue, we lost electricity for three days. I wasn't able to make any postings, but I have some more pictures from Hurricane Irene when I went surfing with one of my good lifeguarding friends, Karli. Besides losing power for three days, there was no substantial damage done to my house.  Lots of branches and leaves all over the yard, but should be back to normal soon.

I'm back at school now, and all moved into my apartment at Lincoln Center. I will be posting more soon!

come on irene

As you may know, Hurricane Irene is about to strike our coast over here in New York. The eye is suppose to hit Manhattan (which will delay my moving in for school), and out here on Long Island we are expecting strong winds.  Considering it may be the worst storm the northeast has witnessed in 50 years, a lot of preparation is needed.  My mom and I spent most of the morning clearing the deck.

Hopefully the pictures before Irene compared to those after won't be to different.  After we finished most of the clearing, we decided to visit the beach.  I brought my surfboard and attempted to catch a few. My car was packed with boogie boards, towels, and my surfboard.

photobooth

As I'm getting ready to pack up and leave for school, I'm forced to spend more time on my computer arranging exact times and dates to situate my life.  I have unleashed my inner a.d.d. and uncovered all my photobooth files. Photobooth is always so entertaining, and take my word that it is equally entertaining while revisiting the photos and remembering the moments.

It is also so funny to realize how much time is wasted on photobooth, and especially because most photos are captured while "studying."  It is also fascinating to look at the pictures over time and notice the changes in people. Especially myself, with my hair!

polski

Every third week in August in Riverhead, NY there is a Polish Fair.  Polish Town is a small town in Riverhead that Polish immigrants settled at the turn of the century.  All of my family is Polish, so naturally I go every year.  This year, I wasn't able to take off to attend the fair during the day.  I went after work and met my grandma in one of the dancing tents.  I'm 50% polish and my mom and her side of the family is all 100% polish, so the fair is always important to us.  In 2009 I decided to run for Polish Town Queen, and actually won the title.

                                                            This years Queen.

A picture from 2009 when I was queen.
