electric feel.

So out in East Quogue, we lost electricity for three days. I wasn't able to make any postings, but I have some more pictures from Hurricane Irene when I went surfing with one of my good lifeguarding friends, Karli. Besides losing power for three days, there was no substantial damage done to my house.  Lots of branches and leaves all over the yard, but should be back to normal soon.

I'm back at school now, and all moved into my apartment at Lincoln Center. I will be posting more soon!

come on irene

As you may know, Hurricane Irene is about to strike our coast over here in New York. The eye is suppose to hit Manhattan (which will delay my moving in for school), and out here on Long Island we are expecting strong winds.  Considering it may be the worst storm the northeast has witnessed in 50 years, a lot of preparation is needed.  My mom and I spent most of the morning clearing the deck.

Hopefully the pictures before Irene compared to those after won't be to different.  After we finished most of the clearing, we decided to visit the beach.  I brought my surfboard and attempted to catch a few. My car was packed with boogie boards, towels, and my surfboard.

photobooth

As I'm getting ready to pack up and leave for school, I'm forced to spend more time on my computer arranging exact times and dates to situate my life.  I have unleashed my inner a.d.d. and uncovered all my photobooth files. Photobooth is always so entertaining, and take my word that it is equally entertaining while revisiting the photos and remembering the moments.

It is also so funny to realize how much time is wasted on photobooth, and especially because most photos are captured while "studying."  It is also fascinating to look at the pictures over time and notice the changes in people. Especially myself, with my hair!

polski

Every third week in August in Riverhead, NY there is a Polish Fair.  Polish Town is a small town in Riverhead that Polish immigrants settled at the turn of the century.  All of my family is Polish, so naturally I go every year.  This year, I wasn't able to take off to attend the fair during the day.  I went after work and met my grandma in one of the dancing tents.  I'm 50% polish and my mom and her side of the family is all 100% polish, so the fair is always important to us.  In 2009 I decided to run for Polish Town Queen, and actually won the title.

                                                            This years Queen.

A picture from 2009 when I was queen.

ridin in my car

On another recent day off I ventured with my mom and friend Kassi to Montauk. I was only able to take photos in the car because, Kassi had to leave a little early bit to go home. It is getting to be that time of the year when all your friends start leaving to start their school semester. Although I'm ready to go back to school I would still like to stay home and go to the beach everyday with people I love.
The drive to Montauk is really beautiful, and so much fun on the back roads when there isn't loads of traffic.  Driving there makes me realize how much I am craving a fun road trip with amusing friends.

funny people

Guess what, it rained again today.  I got sent home early, and went thrift store shopping with some of the guys I work with.  It was a very interesting experience, and I must admit I am excited for them to wear all their "new" ironic t-shirts at college. For the evening, my mother had purchased tickets for Bay Street Theatre's Comedy Club with Elayne Boosler.

The Bay Street sign is slightly visible, I however can not explain the heinous expression on my face.  The pictures unfortunately aren't the best quality, because I took them after the show, in utter darkness.

Elayne was hysterical, but I will admit it was a tough crowd. It was an older crowd, and I was by far the youngest person in the theatre.  Don't get me wrong, I love my old folk, but they were all too stuffy.

rainy days and sundays

Working as an ocean lifeguard it is obvious that the weather plays a large role in my profession.  Being that it was down pouring all day, I had the day off.  I decided to spend my afternoon with a friend in Westhampton Beach town eating crepes.  I later decided to see the new movie "The Help" with my mother and grandmother.
If I look slightly teary eyed in some of the photographs, it is because I was hysterically crying for a good fraction of the movie.  I would unquestionably recommend this movie to anyone.  The acting is phenomenal and the story extraordinary.  It is extremely frightening to think about a time like this.  Progress is amazing, but the human voyage to complete equality is not yet fulfilled.

earth conscious optics

A few months ago my mother came across a cool eyewear company.  The sunglasses I bought are through Modo eyewear, and the specific brand is earth conscious optics (eco). The glasses are made from recycled plastic, and a tree is planted for every pair purchased. Check them out; http://modoshop.com/article.php?cid=5&id=147

quintessentials

The summer has flown by, as does every summer. But more importantly, it means that school is approaching. Attempting to rid of my procrastination, I am preparing myself for school now. That means buying all the essentials (natural of course).

So far I have; Burt's Bees products including foot cream, lip balm, hand and cuticle cream. Trader Joe's products including jojoba oil (makeup remover), hand cream, and face cream. I also have Jason's shampoo and conditioner, crystal body deodorant, Wally's beeswax candles, Tom's deodorant, earth therapeutics hand remedy, hemp paper stationary, vitamin C, and homeopathic allergy relief.

day off

So today was my day off, from work. I decided to catch up on e-mails clogging my inbox, cleaning my room, and some natural and organic food shopping. I came across some Kombucha tea, which a friend recently introduced me to. I totally recommend it. It is delicious, natural, and may (or may not) have positive health benefits.

This is the brand that I tried. Check it out; http://www.synergydrinks.com/
You can even try and make some yourself; http://www.kombu.de/anleit-e.htm
